To reach the station from the Pierce County ferry terminal on Anderson Island,
proceed 1.3 km (0.8 mi) SW on Yoman Road, continue 1.1 km (0.7 mi) SW on
Eckenstam Johnson Road, turn left onto Lake Josephine Boulevard and proceed 2.7
km (1.7 mi) east and south to the end at Riviera Drive, turn right onto Riviera
Drive and then immediately turn right onto Marina Drive and proceed 0.5 km (0.3
mi) east down the hill to the waterfront parking area.  The station is on the
wooden pier and the bench marks are around the marina grounds and on private
property at Sandy Point.

The mark is a flange encased rod set in the grass on the E side of the marina
parking lot N of the boat ramp and dock, 38.78 m (127.2 ft) N of the centerline
of the boat ramp, 19.33 m (63.4 ft) SE of the eastern end of the guardrail along
the S side of Marina Drive, 4.65 m (15.3 ft) W of the top of stone rip rap
sloping down to sand beach, 2.67 m (8.8 ft) S of slow sign at the bottom of
Marina Drive hill, 1.36 m (4.5 ft) E of the eastern edge of asphalt.  The datum
point is set 4 cm (2 inches) below grade being the top of a stainless steel rod
driven 14.3 m (46.9 ft) to refusal and encased in a 6 inch (15 cm) NOS logo
cover with concrete kick block.

The mark is a flange encased rod set in a small flat area a short way up the
brushy hill west of the marina restroom building, 44.33 m (145.4 ft) SSW of a
light pole in grass on W side of parking lot across from the boat ramp, 40.35 m
(132.4 ft) SW of the northern most corner of the concrete pad under the covered
picnic area, 18.15 m (59.5 ft) S of a power pole with electric pedestal and
14.30 m (46.9 ft) WSW of the NW corner of the restroom building.  The datum
point is set 4 cm (2 inches) below grade being the top of a stainless steel rod
driven 14.5 m (47.6 ft) to refusal, and encased in a 6 inch (15 cm) NOS logo
cover with concrete kick block.

The mark is a disk set in the flat top of an angled concrete buttress supporting
the S side of the retaining wall at the base of the fixed marina pier, 15.49 m
(50.8 ft) ESE of a wooden light pole in an evergreen bush, 8.47 m (27.8 ft) S of
a stone bench north of the dock, 3.25 m (10.7 ft) SW of the SW corner of the
pier, 0.76 m (2.5 ft) SE of the wooden hand rail along the top of the retaining
wall dock and 1.30 m (4.3 ft) above the sand beach.

The mark is a flange encased rod set in the grass just N of Sandy Point, 64.05 m
(210.1 ft) ENE of a flag pole adjacent to a pretend fire hydrant, 52.23 m (171.4
ft) N of a S facing keep out sign, 45 m (150 ft) NW of the high point of the
gravel berm at the tip of Sandy Point, 33.90 m (111.2 ft) east of the southeast
corner of a large metal shed and 26.12 m south of a keep out sign on wooden 4 x
4 post facing E.  The datum point is set 4 cm (2 inches) below grade being the
top of a stainless steel rod driven 21.9 m (71.9 ft) to refusal and encased in a
6 inch (15 cm) NOS logo cover with concrete kick block.

The mark is a flange encased rod set in grass south of the driveway to 11711
Marina Drive and above the sand beach, 17.48 m (57.3 ft) W of the SW corner of a
shed, 11.08 m (36.4 ft) SW of an electrical pedestal, 6.98 m (22.9 ft) SSE of
the centerline of the driveway to 11711 Marina Drive, 2.79 m (9.2 ft) NNW of top
of 1 m (3.3 ft) high grass bluff above the beach and 2.02 m (6.6 ft) ESE of the
center of the eastern most of three large tree stumps along south side of
driveway.  The datum point is set 4 cm (2 inches) below grade being the top of a
stainless steel rod driven 8.5 m (27.9 ft) to refusal and encased in a 6 inch
(15 cm) NOS logo cover with concrete kick block.

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
