To reach the station from the intersection of US Highway 101 and Oregon State
Highway 18 (Salmon River Highway) proceed north on US Highway 101 for 1.8 km
(1.1 mi) to the intersection with Three Rocks Road, turn left and proceed NW for
3.5 km (2.2 mi) to the intersection with Savage Road, turn right and proceed
north and then west for 1.1 km (0.7 mi) to the end of the road at the Salmon
River, turn right and continue on foot along the bank of the Salmon River N and
downstream for 0.7 km (0.1 mi). The station is located on the north bank of the
Salmon River in a small cove and flanked by large boulders on both sides. The
benchmarks are located along the river bank within 0.3 km (0.2 mi) of the
station.

The bench mark is a disk set in the S face of a bedrock outcrop, 118.0 m (387
ft) E of bench mark 943 6381 B, 5.18 m (17.0 ft) NE of the S edge of the bedrock
outcrop, 1.76 m (5.8 ft) E of W edge of bedrock outcrop, 1.54 m (5.1 ft) WNW of
E edge of bedrock outcrop, 1.32 m (4.3 ft) SE of bedrock cliff face wall and
about 2.05 m (6.7 ft) above the beach.

The bench mark is a disk set in the S face of a bedrock outcrop, 33.05 m (108.4
ft) N of bench mark 943 6381 C, 11.90 m (39.0 ft) NW of an eroded area of cliff,
4.15 m (13.6 ft) WNW of the SE end of bedrock jutting into the river, 2.71 m
(8.9 ft) SSW of a mouth of a small creek, 2.35 m (7.7 ft) ESE of a cliff face
and about 0.65 m (2.1 ft) above the beach.

The bench mark is a disk set in the S face of a bedrock outcrop, 60.20 m (197.5
ft) E of bench mark 943 6381 D, 33.05 m (108.4 ft) S of bench mark 943 6381 B,
3.42 m (11.2 ft) N of the S most point of bedrock at high tide, 1.66 m (5.4 ft)
W of the E most point of bedrock at high tide, 1.01 m (3.3 ft) SE of the
vegetation line above bench mark on the bedrock outcrop and about 1.50 m (4.9
ft) above the high water line on the surrounding boulders.

The bench mark is a disk set in the W face of a bedrock outcrop, 60.20 m (197.5
ft) W of bench mark 943 6381 C, 17.35 m (56.9 ft) SE of the mouth of a small
creek with small boulders at the mouth, 0.59 m (1.9 ft) E of the W edge of
bedrock, 0.45 m (1.5 ft) WNW of a large round balancing rock, 0.30 m (1.0 ft) S
of the N edge of bedrock and about 1.23 m (4.0 ft) above the high water line on
the surrounding boulders.

The bench mark is a disk set in a large boulder, 37.72 m (123.8 ft) SW of bench
mark 943 6381 D, 5.90 m (19.4 ft) ESE of a cliff wall to the uplands, 3.72 m
(12.2 ft) NW of a large rock outcrop with bushes, 3.63 m (11.9 ft) NNE of the S
edge of the boulder on which the mark is set and 0.60 m (2.0 ft) N of the
highest point on the boulder.

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
