To reach the tidal bench marks from the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and
County Route 707 in Tequesta, proceed 0.56 km (0.35 mi) east on County Route 707
to the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway.  The bench marks are in the
vicinity of the bridge.  The tide gage and staff were located on the south end
of the east fence of the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway.

concrete bridge walkway for the bridge over Jupiter Sound (Intracoastal
Waterway), 5.61 m (18.4 ft) south of the centerline of the two lane bridge, 0.85
m (2.8 ft) south of the south curb of the highway and 0.30 m (1 ft) above road
level.

The bench mark is a disk set flush in the concrete walkway on the north side of
the bridge, 114.3 m (375 ft) west of the east end of the bridge, 70.10 m (230
ft) east of the west end of the bridge, 5.94 m (19.5 ft) north of the centerline
of the bridge, 0.30 m (1.0 ft) east of the draw span and 0.15 m (0.5 ft) above
the highway.

The bench mark is a desk set located 42.06 m (138.0 ft) east of the NE corner of
the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway, 9.85 m (32.3 ft) north of the
centerline of the highway, 6.80 m (22.3 ft) west of a blue U.S. mailbox, 1.92 m
(6.3 ft) west of NW corner of concrete pad used for newspaper vending machines,
0.79 m (2.6 ft) east of the east end of the steel guardrail for the bridge, and
5.08 cm (2.0 inches) below grade under turf grass.    NOTE - U.S. mailbox is
gone.

The bench mark is a desk set at the intersection of the Florida East Coast
Railroad and Tequesta Drive, 10.39 m (34.1 ft) west of the near rail, 9.39 m
(30.8 ft) north of and level with centerline of the westbound lanes of Tequesta
Drive, 6.49 m (21.3 ft) west of a railroad signal, 2.01 m (6.6 ft) north of the
north edge of a sidewalk, 0.40 m (1.3 ft) east of a witness post, and the
monument projects 0.30 m (1.0 ft) above the ground surface.    NOTE--The
monument leans slightly to the NE, but is solid in place.

The bench mark is a desk set in a square hole near the center of a raised
triangle in the center of a concrete slab which is 5.49 m (18.0 ft) long and
3.35 m (11.0 ft) wide, (the slab is marked 02020); 74.37 m (244.0 ft) west of
the east corner of the fence around a radar site, 9.75 m (32.0 ft) NW of the
center line of a driveway, about level with the driveway and 7.62 cm (3.0
inches) above the level of the ground.    NOTE - Only raised triangle remains. 
Concrete slab has been removed.

Geodetic heights of the bench marks meet all NOAA/NOS/NGS quality control
standards for Second Order, Class 1 leveling.  It is advised that a confirmation
set of levels be established for bench marks A 232 1965, and MOD 2 1964 to
verify height differences before using tidal bench mark elevation information.

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
