To reach the mark from the intersection of State Road A1A (State Road 200) and
County Road 107 in Oneil, go NW on State Road A1A for 1.448 km (0.9 mi) to the
intersection of Blackrock Road, turn right on Blackrock Road and go north for
2.253 km (1.4 mi) to the junction of Pirates Bluff Road on the right, turn right
on Pirates Bluff Road and go east for 0.402 km (0.25 mi) to the junction of
Water Road, turn left on Water Road, and go north for 45.7 m (150.0 ft) to the
private residence at 780 Water Road.  The bench marks are located at the
residence and along Pirates Bluff Road and Blackrock Road.  The tide gage and
staff were located on a wood dock at the residence.

The primary bench mark is a flange-encased rod located 46.6 m (153.0 ft) NNW of
the intersection of Pirates Bluff Road and Water Road, on the north side of the
property at 780 Water Road, 19.5 m (64.0 ft) north of a 24-inch oak tree, 9.27 m
(30.4 ft) east of the approximate centerline of Water Road, 5.79 m (19.0 ft)
north of the approximate center of a sand drive leading to the residence on the
property, 3.96 m (13.0 ft) NW of a 21-inch pine tree, and 0.15 m (0.5 ft) east
of a metal witness post.  The datum point is recessed 0.09 m (0.3 ft) below the
level of the ground, being the top of a copper-clad steel rod driven into the
ground, and encased in a PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.    NOTE:  A magnet was
buried at the south side of the mark.

The bench mark is a flange-encased rod on the south side of Pirates Bluff Road,
117.65 m (386.0 ft) west of the intersection of Pirates Bluff Road and Water
Road, between the residences of 3639 Pirates Road (to the east) and 3614 Pirates
Road (to the west), 10 m (32.7 ft) NE of a 4-trunk oak tree, approximately
40-inches in diameter, 6.7 m (22.0 ft) NNW of a 6-inch x 12-inch corner wood
fence post, 6.7 m (22.0 ft) NNE of a 6-inch x 12-inch wooden gate post at the
east end of a gate into the property at 3614 Pirates Bluff Road, 5.79 m (19.0
ft) south of the approximate centerline of Pirates Bluff Road, and 0.3 m (1.0
ft) north of a carsonite witness post.  The datum point is recessed 0.21 m (0.7
ft) below ground level, being the top of a copper-clad steel rod driven into the
ground, and encased in a PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.    NOTE:  A magnet was
buried at the south side of the mark.

The bench mark is a disk set flush in a concrete head wall for a box culvert,
0.7 km (0.5 mi) south of the intersection of Pirates Bluff Road and Blackrock
Road (County Road 107), 4.7 m (15.4 ft) west of the centerline of Blackrock Road
(County Road 107), 0.2 m (0.5 ft) north of the south end of the west concrete
head wall for a box culvert under Blackrock Road.  The head wall and culvert are
0.7 km (0.5 mi) south of Pirates Bluff Road and connect a creek and marsh area.

The bench mark is a flange-encased rod located 27 m (88.7 ft) SW of the junction
of Blackrock Road (County Road 107) and Pirates Bluff Road, 13 m (42.7 ft) west
of the centerline of Blackrock Road, 3.2 m (10.5 ft) north of the centerline of
a grass driveway to the residence at 759 Blackrock Road, and 0.46 m (1.5 ft) ENE
of a wood power pole #14608657101 with a metal witness sign attached.  The datum
point is recessed 0.06 m (0.2 ft) below the level of the ground, being the top
of a copper-clad steel rod driven into the ground, and encased in a PVC pipe and
concrete kickblock.      NOTE:  A magnet is buried at the south side of the
mark.

The bench mark is a disk set in the top of a round concrete monument flush with
the ground and about level with Blackrock Road, about 25.3 m (83.0 ft) south of
the westerly prolongation of the centerline of Durden Road, 13.72 m (45.0 ft)
west of the centerline of Blackrock Road, 3.44 m (11.3 ft) north of a wooden
power pole, 3.05 m (10.0 ft) north of a chain link fence post at the northeast
corner of the property at 96287 Blackrock Road, and 0.15 m (0.5 ft) east of a
carsonite witness post.    NOTE:  A magnet is buried at the south side of the
mark.

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
